over doughnut gets teen police citation
An Erie teen who made a boisterous
demand for a second free doughnut got instead a citation for disorderly
conduct.
The 17-year-old had received and eaten a free doughnut from
Krispy Kreme, 7501 Peach St., about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The teenager
stepped back into line and asked for another free doughnut, reported
Pennsylvania State Police at Lawrence Park. When a Krispy Kreme employee refused
to give him one, the boy left.
The teen returned a short time later with
a McDonald's bag covering his head, with eyeholes torn out so he could see. He
stepped back into line and asked for a free doughnut. When he was refused again,
the teen fell to the floor, flailed his arms and legs, and demanded a free
doughnut.
Treiber appeal moves to state Supreme
Court
The Stephen Treiber death penalty case is now in the hands of the
state Supreme Court.
The appeal advanced by Tim Lucas, Treiber's lawyer,
comes after Erie County Judge Ernest J. DiSantis Jr. rejected Treiber's
post-sentence motions seeking a new trial.
Death penalty appeals
automatically bypass state Superior Court and proceed directly to the high
court. The court reviews each death penalty case for error whether or not the
defendant appeals. A Westmoreland County jury in October sentenced Treiber to
death for killing his daughter in a deliberately set March 2001 house fire.
Man sent to prison for injuring baby
A Waterford man was
sentenced to nine to 23 months in Erie County Prison followed by five years of
probation for shaking and injuring a 7-week-old infant.
Stephen Krahe,
21, of the 1800 block of Lee Road, also must pay court costs, President Judge
William R. Cunningham said Monday in Erie County Criminal Court.
An Erie
County jury convicted Krahe on July 17 of charges of reckless endangerment and
endangering the welfare of children.
Krahe was accused of shaking the
child on March 11, 2002, while he cared for her in an Erie residence. Court
records indicate the baby suffered retinal bleeding and seizures.
Erie man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide
An Erie man
has pleaded guilty to killing a woman in a November car accident.
Shawn
McDowell, 30, of the 900 block of East 11th Street, pleaded guilty Monday in
Erie County Court to charges of DUI, homicide by vehicle, and reckless
endangerment, in a plea deal.
In a hearing before Judge Ernest J.
DiSantis Jr., McDowell admitted he was driving while intoxicated and struck
pedestrian Shavonna Miller with his vehicle on Nov. 17.
Miller, 18, of
the 700 block of East 24th Street, was crossing the street with friends in the
10 block of East 12th Street when the accident occurred. She died of her
injuries at Hamot Medical Center three weeks after the accident.
